Abstract:

To control the PCCI (premixed compression ignition) combustion efficiently and simply.

A closed loop electronic control system 1 for controlling the combustion of a Diesel engine structured so that its fuel injection system 14 makes at least two runs of fuel injection per engine cycle and operating with a highly premixed compression combustion in which the fuel injecting process consists of at least one run of pilot injection and the following main injection is equipped with a sensor 5 to measure or calculate the quantitative characteristic of the fuel combustion process and a closed loop control block 12 to offer a control of the fuel injection system on the basis of the measured or calculated value of the quantity by adjusting at least one of the time interval of the pilot injection and main injection and the quantity of the fuel injected by pilot injection.
