Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To increase the wear resistance of the inner peripheral surface which is in contact with a work piece for a guide bush and to increase the quantity of cutting and the working speed with an automatic lathe.
SOLUTION: The rigid carbonaceous film 15 is formed directly or via an intermediate layer, which enhances adhesion, on the inner peripheral surface 11b of the guide bush 11 so that the film thickness thereof is thicker in the vicinity 15a of the end of an opening on the inner peripheral surface than that on the inside 15b thereof. For this purpose, the guide bush is arranged in a vacuum vessel to form the rigid carbonaceous film on the inner peripheral surface thereof by a plasma CVD method. In such a case, a rod-shaped auxiliary electrode formed with a stepped rod-shape or tapered part, which is thinner at the tip end part than at the other parts, is inserted into the central opening 11j of the guide bush 11 so that the tip end part thereof or the tip end part of the tapered part is located in the vicinity of the end of the opening, and the auxiliary electrode thereof is grounded or the positive D.C. voltage is applied thereto.
