PURPOSE: To reduce shock caused when gear change is carried out, and prevent blow-up of an engine by gradually increasing oil pressure which is led in a clutch when shift change from a N range to a D range is detected by a shift position detector.
CONSTITUTION: When the position of a shift lever 9 is shifted from a D range to a N range and then to a D range on running, a shift position signal is generated by a shift position detector 10, and oil pressure which is led in the output side pulley means 11B and the input side pulley means 11A of a speed change gear 11 is gradually increased by pulse modulation which is generated by a solenoid valve 32. It is thus possible to eliminate shock which is generated in a vehicle when the shift lever 9 is operated. When step down-pressure is applied on an accelerating pedal while increasing oil pressure to be led in the clutch 12 by pulse modulation, clutch connection completing control is carried out in condition in which the engaging rate of the clutch 12 is large, and thereby it is possible to prevent blow-up of an engine.
