To mix not more than a predetermined volume of diatom earth as an inorganic filler into compounded rubber of which a clutch facing is composed, thereby greatly enhancing the high-temperature strength of the compounded rubber, and enhancing the wear resistance, rotational breakdown strength, and judder resistance of the clutch facing.
The compounded rubber blended with 3 to 18 vol% diatom earth has markedly enhanced tensile strength at 200C; the reinforcing effect of the diatom earth is apparent. The compounded rubber is used and glass fibers are impregnated with phenol resin and adhered to the compounded rubber to produce the clutch facing. A frictional abrasion test, a rotational destruction test, and a judder resistance test are conducted on the clutch facing. The test results show that the clutch facing has enhanced wear resistance, rotational breakdown strength and judder resistance as compared with a clutch facing that uses compounded rubber without diatom earth blended.
