PURPOSE: To get rid of paper sheet inlet failure due to clutch irregularity by carrying out a clutch initialization motion of a sheet feeder by way of confirming a continuoussingle changeover lever immediately before an initial paper sheet inlet motion after a device recognizes the sheet feeder after electric power is charged.

CONSTITUTION: At a point of time when a sheet feeder is installed by an installation recognition processing part 3 of the sheet feeder, a clutch initialization request flag to demand initialization of a clutch to a clutch initialization control part 4 is erected. Thereafter, at the time to receive a paper sheet inlet command by a host computer 1 or an operation panel operation part 2, initialization of the clutch is carried out by the clutch initialization control part 4 only when the aforementioned request flag is erected, and after the relative request flag is dropped, an inlet motion control part 5 is made to carry out an inlet motion. That is, after electric power of a printer device is charged, only once after the sheet feeder is installed, clutch position is initialized immediately before the first paper sheet inlet motion.
