Abstract:

PURPOSE: To obtain polymer powder or grains of excellent powder or grain properties from a polymer latex, by using a nozzle for latex coagulation comprising a base plate provided with a plurality of small tubes each having a specified gap and a specified length.

CONSTITUTION: In coagulating a polymer latex, use is made of a nozzle for latex cogulation, comprising a base plate provided with a plurality of small tubes in such a manner that the gap between the tubes is at least 1mm and the projection of the tube beyond the base plate is at least 3mm. When the tubes protrude beyond the base plate by at least 3mm, their tips are to reach the laminar region outside the eddy region, and therefore the polymer latex extruded from these tips can be gently carried by the laminar flow of the coagulation solution and coagulated to form high-bulk density polymer powder or grains free of fine powder and coarse grains. If the gap between the tubes is as narrow as 1mm or below, the flowing of the coagulation solution into the tubing becomes difficult, so that satisfactory coagulation becomes impossible in the area outside the periphery of the tubing. Therefore, the gap between the tubes must be at least 1mm.
