PURPOSE: To provide the titled device equipped with hoppers capable of containing at least twice as much coal as a quantity to be charged in one oven chamber, which reduces the time of reciprocation for feeding coal from a coal tower and minimizes working time for one cycle of filling one oven chamber with coal.

CONSTITUTION: Four coal charging opeings 10 are provided laterally in the ceiling wall of each oven chamber 1. A pair of coal loading trolleys 3 are allowed to run freely along each side and right and left hoppers 2, 2 with four loading openings 11, two on both sides, each facing the respective four discharge openings 10, are attached to the loading trolleys 3, 3. The hoppers 2, 2 are each equipped with table feeders 12 which deliver coal to the discharging openings 11. The hopper 2 has a capacity of containing one batch for charge of coal for each coke chamber 1. The right and left loading trolleys are moved synchronously and the two coke chambers 1 are filled with coal in a single replenishing operation of coal from a coal tower 5 to the hoppers 2, 2, thus reducing the time required for one cycle of coal feeding.
