PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coal management method capable of preventing quality reduction of coal due to heat generation and reliably preventing spontaneous ignition of the coal in a coal yard.SOLUTION: The coal management method of a natural stacking coal yard includes: a first measurement step for measuring coal temperature at plural reference measurement positions set at a predetermined height from the ground surface, along an outer periphery of a coal mountain, and at predetermined intervals in the vicinity of an outer surface of the coal mountain formed in the coal yard and specifying a reference measurement position having coal temperature exceeding first reference temperature set lower than spontaneous ignition temperature; a second measurement step for measuring coal temperature at plural peripheral measurement positions set in a predetermined range with the reference measurement position having temperature exceeding the first reference temperature in the first measurement step as the center and specifying a peripheral measurement position having coal temperature exceeding second reference temperature set at temperature having possibility of spontaneous ignition; and a first watering step for watering the peripheral measurement position having temperature exceeding the second reference temperature.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 5
