PURPOSE: To efficiently separate ash from coal by adding and mixing an oil with a slurry of a crushed, ash-contg. coal and water, and then separating the obtd. mixt. into a coal/oil slurry and an ash/water slurry by difference in surface physical properties.
CONSTITUTION: Ash-contg. lump coal 2, water 3 and recovered water 16 are supplied to a wet-type crusher 1, in which the coal is crushed to have a max. particle size ≤100μm, forming a coal/water slurry of concn. 20W50%, which is sent to a mixer 4 and combined with separately supplied oil 5 and vigorously agitated to carry the coal in the water slurry into the oil by keeping the water slurry and oil slurry in an emulsified state. The slurry is supplied to a settler 7 and separated into a coal/oil slurry 8 and ash/water slurry 9. The slurry 8 is sent to a preparation tank 10, where coal-liquefaction material slurry 14 is prepared by adding a liquefaction catalyst 11 and a liquefaction solvent oil 12. The slurry 9 is introduced into a separator 15, where the ash is separated, and water in recycled to the crusher 1 as the recovered water 16.
