To provide a coal dryer capable of securely drying coal while suppressing decline in heat exchanger effectiveness with coal caused by dry gas and occurrence of erosion.
A coal dryer 10 includes: a grate 11 capable of holding supplied material coal 1; a lower cover 12 installed below the grate 11 and covering a lower side of the grate 11; and a hood 13 installed above the lower cover 12 via the grate 11 and covering an upper side of the grate 11. The lower cover 12 includes a dry gas supply pipe 14 supplying dry gas 5 to inside, and the hood 13 includes a dry gas exhaust pipe 15 exhausting the dry gas 6 used inside. The grate 11 is movable and the dry gas exhaust pipe 15 is disposed on the upstream side in the movement direction of the grate 11.
