Title:
COAL LIQUEFACTION
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS59193988
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
A coal liquefaction process for producing hydrocarbon liquid and gas products wherein fine particulate solids are removed in-situ from the reactor effluent slurry liquid by using a process-derived solvent vapor at supercritical conditions. In the process, a coal-oil feed is liquefied and hydrogenated at 650-900.degree.F temperature, and the resulting liquid slurry fraction containing fine particulate solids is contacted with a process-derived solvent vapor fraction having normal boiling range of 250-400.degree.F at supercritical temperature to dissolve and extract substantially all the hydrocarbon liquid fraction and separate the particulate solids contained therein. The resulting solvent vapor with dissolved coal liquid fraction is pressure-reduced and distilled to recover the needed solvent fraction and provide a hydrocarbon liquid fraction product. The coal liquefaction step is preferably catalytic. Also if desired, the supercritical solvent vapor extraction step can be used intermediate two coal liquefaction reaction zones connected in series to produce the solids-free hydrocarbon liquid and has products.
