PURPOSE: To provide the titled composition having an excellent handleability because of its excellent flowability in spite of low water content, which comprises a powdered coal, water and a salt of a chain unsaturated hydrocarbon/alicyclic unsaturated hydrocarbon/unsaturated dicarboxylic acid (anhydride) copolymer.

CONSTITUTION: The titled composition comprising 100pts.wt. powdered coal having an average particle size of 10W100μ, such as a lignite, a (sub)bituminous coal and an anthracite, 20W200pts.wt. water and 0.1W5.0pts.wt. fluidizer comprising a salt of a chain unsaturated hydrocarbon/alicyclic unsaturated hydrocarbon/ unsaturated dicarboxylic acid (anhydride) copolymer having a degree of polymerization of 3W100 and a molecular weight of 300W10,000 which has been prepared by copolymerizing a 4W6C chain unsaturated hydrocarbon having a double bond with a 4W10C alicyclic unsaturated hydrocarbon having a double bond and a dicarboxylic acid (anhydride) having at least one C-C unsaturated bond [e.g.: (anhydrous) maleic acid] in the presence of a solvent such as benzene at 5W150°C under a pressure of atmospheric pressure to 10kg/cm2G for 0.5W15hr and converting the copolymer to its salt such as a metallic salt or an ammonium salt by means of a saponification.
