PURPOSE: To improve electrode burn resistance and welding efficiency by incorporating specific weight ratios of C, Si, Mn, N, etc., into a mild steel core wire, incorporating SiO2, TiO2, iron powder, etc., at prescribed weight ratios into a coating material and limiting the total content of the C.
CONSTITUTION: The compsn. of the core wire is limited to 0.001-0.006wt.% C, ≤0.012% Si, 0.35-0.65% Mn, ≤0.005% N, 0.02-0.06% O, and the balance Fe and impurities. The coating material is incorporated therein with 10-30% SiO2, 5-20% TiO2, 2-15% total of basic materials such as CaO and MgO, 15-55% iron powder, 4-15% Fe-Mn, 3-10% iron oxide, 1-5% org. matter, etc. Further, the contents of C, W(c), F(c) in the core wire and the coating material are so controlled as to satisfy the formula I. The electrode burn resistance is improved and high-current welding is enabled by the control of the C component and, therefore, the welding efficiency is improved.
