To provide a coated and heat-treated steel material which has appropriate corrosion resistance after having been painted as an automotive member and can suppress the production of scale due to heat treatment, even when having been subjected to the heat treatment of heating at least a part of a steel material having a plated film on at least one side to a quenchable temperature range and subsequently cooling it.
The coated and heat-treated steel material is formed by conducting the heat treatment of heating at least a part of the steel material having the plated film of an aluminum-based alloy on at least one side to the quenchable temperature range, and has a film in which iron and aluminum are alloyed, on the surface of at least one part of a portion that has been heat-treated. The film has corrosion resistance and also can secure a lubricating function at a high temperature.
