Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating agent for paper capable of imparting a coated paper with excellent barrierness without staining a drier roll and calender roll during the production of a coated paper and provide a process for producing a coated paper by using the coating agent.
SOLUTION: This paper-coating agent is produced by compounding (A) 100 pts.wt. of a polyvinyl alcohol having carboxyl group with (B) 0.5-100 pts.wt. of a polyvinyl alcohol having a viscosity of ≥25 mPa.s as 4% aqueous solution at 20°C and a saponification degree of ≥95 mol%. The coated paper can be produced by coating a base paper with the coating agent at a coating rate of ≥0.05 g/m2 and drying the coated layer.
