To provide an inexpensive coating apparatus for applying and forming a functional film, a colored film or the like for the purpose of stain resistance or heat ray blocking on a large-sized plate like body, particularly a large-sized glass for a building window or a vehicle window with high productivity without occurrence of color non-uniformity and to provide a coating method for the same.
The coating apparatus is composed of an applicator movable with a prescribed gap between the applicator and the plate like body and is for supplying a coating liquid to the gap between the plate like body and the applicator while advancing the applicator and coating the plate like body. The plate like body is horizontally placed on a stage and the applicator moves while keeping the prescribed gap between the applicator and the upper surface of the plate like body placed on the stage. A step crossing the advancing direction of the applicator at right angle is provided on the lower surface of the applicator to form ≥2 surfaces on the lower surface, and the gap between the lower surface of the applicator in the advancing direction side and the upper surface of the plate like body is wider than the gap between the lower surface of the applicator in the direction opposed to the advancing direction and the upper surface of the plate like body.
