To provide a coating apparatus without generating a failure in coating surface quality caused by dissolved air in a coating liquid, and a coating method.
The coating apparatus applies the coating liquid to at least one side face of a sheet-like body carried in a constant direction. The apparatus has a gas/liquid separation membrane for separating gas from liquid, a degassing part for degassing the coating liquid by the separation membrane so that the amount of the dissolved air at the degassing temperature becomes 90% or less with respect to the saturation amount of the air dissolved in the coating liquid, and a coating part for applying the coating liquid degassed at the degassing part to the sheet-like body. The coating method uses the coating apparatus.
