Abstract:

To provide a multistage-type aqueous emulsion polymer suitable for coating having dirt-picking up resistance, and also to provide a coat including the same polymer.

This multistage-type aqueous emulsion polymer comprises (i) the first polymer obtained by copolymerizing at least one nonionic monoethylenically unsaturated monomer, 0.5-7 wt.% monoethylenically unsaturated ionic comonomer and 0-0.1 wt.% polyethylenically unsaturated comonomer respectively based on the weight of the first polymer and having 15°C to 105°C Tg and (ii) the second polymer obtained by copolymerizing at least one nonionic monoethylenically unsaturated monomer, 0-2 wt.% monoethylenically unsaturated ionic comonomer and 0.25-6 wt.% polyethylenically unsaturated comonomer respectively based on the weight of the second polymer and having -55°C to 30°C Tg. The chemical composition of the second polymer is different from that of the first polymer. The second polymer is included in a quantity of 25-75 wt.% based on the total weight of the first and second polymers.
