Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a coating composition for ink receiving layers, having improved ink fixation in ink-jet printing and water resistance and excellent transparency and clarity of recorded image.
SOLUTION: This composition comprises a graft urethane resin (1) prepared by grafting (C) 100-60 wt.% of a hydrophilic radically polymerizable vinyl monomer with 0-40 wt.% of another copolymerizable vinyl monomer in an aqueous solution or a water dispersion in which (A) an aqueous urethane resin is mixed with (B) a polyvinyl alcohol having 75-100% saponification degree and 500-5,000 polymerization degree and a modified cationic polymer (2) obtained by compounding (D) a copolymer composed of 10-160 wt.% of a radically polymerizable vinyl monomer having a cationic quaternary ammonium base at the side chain and 90-10 wt.% of another copolymerizable vinyl monomer with (E) a polyvinyl alcohol hating 75-100% saponification degree and 500-5,000 polymerization degree.
