Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a coating composition which can be used to render the surface of a material biocompatible or blood-compatible by dispersing a polymer comprising a specified zwitter-ionic monomer and a hydrophobic comonomer in an alcohol.
SOLUTION: This composition is prepared by dispersing in an alcohol as a medium a copolymer having a molecular weight of 2×104 to 106 and obtained by radically polymerizing a zwitter-ionic monomer of the formula: Y-B-X [B is a linear or branched alkylene chain optionally containing a perfluorinated chain and one or more F atoms containing it or the like; X is a group having a permanently positively charged center; Y is an ethylenically unsaturated polymerizable group of formula I or II; R is H or a 1-4C alkyl; A is -O- or -NR1-; R1 is H, a 1-4C alkyl, or the like; K is -(CH2)POC(O)- or the like; and p is 1-12] with a hydrophobic comonomer of the formula: Y1-Q (wherein Y1 is an ethylenically unsaturated polymerizable group of formula III or IV; R14 is R; A' is -O-or -NR15; R15 is a group Q; and K' is K).
