PURPOSE: To prevent a coating on a paper web after leaving a roll gap from presenting an outward appearance like that of the skin of an orange by directly connecting a support air beam with the downstream part of a roll gap and also arranging it at a distance of specified times as large as a roll diameter.

CONSTITUTION: In a coating station, two rolls 10, 20 are arranged, and to one of them, a nozzle applicator 10.1 is attached. Then, a paper web 11 is conveyed in the direction of A to pass it through a roll gap. At this time, downstream of the roll gap, a support air beam 12 having a lot of holes 12.1 is arranged. On the other hand, downstream of the support air beam 12, an infrared drying line 13, floating drying lines 14.1∼14.3, and an infrared drying line 15 are connected in this order. By the way, the support air beam 12 is directly connected with the downstream part of the roll gap, and also is arranged at a distance of about 0.3 times to 1 time as large as a roll diameter. In this way, a coating on the paper web 11 after leaving the roll gap is prevented from presenting an outward appearance like that of the skin of an orange.
