PURPOSE: To adequately and automatically apply a rust preventive oil and the like by providing a revolving mechanism for a rotary body like a metallic roll, a coating head, an instrument for measuring the diameter of the rotary body, and a mechanism for adjustably moving a coating head to the rotary body based on the measurement result.
CONSTITUTION: In applying a rust preventive oil, the diameter of a roll 1 is measured by a diameter measuring sensor 6, a coating head 7 is raised/lowered based on the measurement result, and the roll 1 is adequately and uniformly coated with the oil. With the coating head 7 retained by an elevating device 8, the measurement of the diameter of the roll 1 is inputted in a controller 18 so as to control the driving of a raising/lowering motor 10 based on a predetermined relation; the head elevating device 8 is raised/lowered by a rack and pinion 9, and the coating head 7 is adjustably moved to the roll 1. Then, based on the instruction from the controller 18, an adjustment is made on the opening degree of a three-way valve 15 and on a pressure regulating valve 17 that is provided in a air supply a pipe 16; and the feeding quantity is thereby controlled of the rust preventive oil to the coating head 7.
