The infrared cut filter is formed by applying onto a substrate a coating containing: an infrared absorbing dye (A), preferably a diimmonium compound represented by the general formula (II); and a copolymer (B) represented by the general formula (I), preferably a copolymer (B) obtained by polymerizing a monomer selected from among a (meth)acrylic acid ester, a hydroxy group-containing monomer, a styrene-based monomer and an unsaturated carboxylic acid.
