PURPOSE: To rapidly control the supply of a coating liquid by providing a valve to open and close a coating liquid passage near to the supply port in the lower part of a liquid reserving part of a coating liquid supplying mechanism for a continuous band-shaped object having a joint part.

CONSTITUTION: The supply port 28 for the coating liquid 11 of the coating liquid supplying device 21 having the liquid reserving part 24 long in the transverse direction and the coating liquid passage 30 communicating with the supply port 28 at the downward end is provided in parallel with the longitudinal direction of a backing roll 12 and a spacing in which the continuous band-shaped object 10 can travel is formed. Further, the valve (rotary valve) 32 to open and close the coating liquid passage 30 is provided near the supply port 28 of the coating liquid passage 30. The supply port 28 is opened to continuously supply the coating liquid 11 in the liquid reserving part 24 at the time of ordinary coating. The valve is operated to close the supply port 20 so that the supply of the coating liquid 11 can be stopped without time lag in case of forming the no-coating part in the transverse direction of the continuous band- shaped object 10.
