To obtain a coating material for food packaging material, which forms a coating film having transparency, excellent ultraviolet screening properties and high adhesivity to a substrate, is safe to the human body even if a coating film is released or a material contained in the coating film is eluted from a coating film and the eluted material is attached to or admixed in a food and forms a coating film capable of controlling deterioration by a microorganism or addition of water drops and a food packaging material using the same.
The coating material comprises a metal oxide to become a photocatalyst, an uncured resin and a thickener. Preferably the metal oxide to become a photocatalyst is titanium oxide, the uncured resin contains a methacrylic acid ester and the thickener contains a cellulose or a cellulose derivative.
