PURPOSE: To obtain the title material which is excellent in stability as a solution and can give a coating film excellent in transparency, appearance and gas barrier property, containing a specified modified ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer sapnosificate.
CONSTITUTION: 0.1W5mol% pyrrolidone monomer (a) (e.g., N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone) is copolymerized with 20W55mol% ethylene (b) and vinyl acetate (c) in the presence of a radical polymerization initiator (e.g., α,α'-azobisisobutyronitrile), and the copolymer is saponified in the presence of an alkali catalyst (e.g., NaOH) in an alcohol solution to obtain a modified ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymer saponificate (A) of a degree of saponification of component (c) ≥98mol% and an intrinsic viscosity of 0.07W0.17l/g [as measured in a phenol (85wt%)/ water (15wt%) mixed solvent at 30°C]. 2W20wt% component A is dissolved in a solvent (B) (e.g., water/alcohol mixed solvent) to obtain the title material. Said material is applied to a base, dried at 50W130°C for 10secW10min and, optionally, heat-treated at 100W150°C for 10secW10min to obtain a 0.5W20μ-thick coating film.
