PURPOSE: To make a coating film improved in anticorrosion and beauty, by applying a solvent-type paint or an aqueous paint as an undercoat onto a workpiece, applying another paint as an intermediate coat thereto, and electrodepositing a paint onto the uncoated part of the workpiece under a specified condition.
CONSTITUTION: A workpiece is coated with a solvent-type paint or an aqueous paint as an undercoat, and then coated with another paint as an intermediate coat in the wet-on-wet state. The uncoated part of the workpiece is electrodeposition- coated with an electrodeposition paint so that the latter forms an electrodeposition paint film whose redissolution ratio is about 15wt% or less when the coated workpiece just after the electrodeposition is dipped for 10min in an electrodeposition bath of 30°C. The electrodeposition paint may be an ordinary anionic or cationic type. The proper change of the kind or mixing rate of a neutralizer to be added to the paint, the acid or base value of a resin, etc. is required to control the redissolution ratio of the electrodeposition paint layer to a value lower than about 15%, preferably lower than 10%.
