To provide a coating method and coating device which minimizes coating loss, prevents the generation of a thick film at start of coating and finish thereof, reduces liquid stay inside a coater, and prevents deterioration in performance and coating quality caused by continuous coating for a long time.
In this method, coating liquid is stably supplied to the manifold of a coating die from at least one part, and the coating liquid is discharged from a slit and coats a traveling supporting body by coming close to the coating die. The method is characterized in that the coating die is held at a position in which the coating die is parted from the supporting body, the coating liquid equivalent to coating amount is supplied to the manifold, the coating die is shifted while discharging the coating liquid from at least one part of the manifold, and discharge of the coating liquid from the manifold is stopped at the time when the coating die reaches a coating position and the coating is started.
