PURPOSE: To prevent the occurrence of recoating of surface in water paint application.
CONSTITUTION: When a vehicle body 16 is being moved by a transfer mechanism for coat application, its border parts between the top and side surfaces are first painted by coating guns 68b provided on the border coating means 60b of side and border coating devices 14a and 14b installed at a predetermined distance from the vehicle body 16 and the side surfaces of the vehicle body 16 are then coated by coating guns 68a provided on the side coating means 60a thereof. The top surface of the vehicle body 16 is thereafter coated by the coating guns mounted on rotating arms 46a and 46b of a top surface coating device 12 moving in the same direction as the vehicle body transfer direction (arrow X).
