To provide a coating method and a coating material by which an MCrAlY type metal coating can be executed without employing a thermal spraying method.
The coating method includes: a step of forming a powder or slurry layer of a coating material, which contains at least two of first elements selected from Ni, Co, Cr, Al, and Y and contains at least one of second elements selected from B, C, and Si, on the surface of an object to be coated; a step of liquefying at least a part of the coating material by heating the object to be coated; a step of raising the melting point of the coating material by diffusing the second elements into the object to be coated; and a step of forming, on the object to be coated, a coating film made of the coating material having the raised melting point.
