PURPOSE: To obtain a coating surface treating agent with good luster, excellent water repellency, stain resistance and durability and with which adherent stain can be easily removed by using a reaction product of a metal alkoxide with an org. carboxylic acid as an active ingredient.

CONSTITUTION: A coating surface treating agent contg. a reaction product of a metal alkoxide with an org. carboxylic acid. As the metal alkoxide used, e.g. a metal alkoxide of M(OR)n (wherein R is a hydrocarbon group; (n) is the valence of a metal atom M) is cited. In the above formula, as the metal atom expressed by M, e.g. metal atoms of the groups IIIa, IV, Vb, etc., of the periodic table are cited and, above all, Si, Ti, Al, Ga, In, Nb, Ta, etc., are pref. The concn. of a solid component effective in forming a coating film is usually 0.1-60wt.%. As a coated face on which this treating agent is applicable, a resin-coated face, a metal-coated face, a face to be coated with a varnish, a lacquer, etc., are cited.
