Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce a memory capacity required for coding/decoding by decoding a transmission code in parallel n-bit into r-bit (m≤r≤n) under the condition of a minimum run length and decoding the code into m-bit code data.
SOLUTION: An S/P converter 10 converts a coded serial 15-bit transmission code into a parallel 15-bit transmission code and a pre-stage decoder 20 converts the code into 10-bit code data. The decoder 20 configures the code with combinations of mappers to minimize the sum of the output word lengths of the mapper and makes the sum of the input word lengths of the mapper equal to or less then the bit number of the transmission code. An LTU 30 receives 5 2-bit code data outputted from 3:2 mappers 21-25 and provides an output of 10-bit code data to be decoded. Thus, in the case of coding/decoding, a minimum run length condition is used to reduce the length of the code thereby reducing the required memory capacity.
