PURPOSE: To provide a coding method capable of solving the dispersion of character recognition generated due to the exitence of plural characters having fixed relation by setting up an individual code system, the code system and retrieving method and device.
CONSTITUTION: In a code table 26a, an 8-bit character code (hereinafter referred to as a code) is expressed by hexadecimal notation of two digits in which the upper four bits are horizontally distributed in the table and the lower four bits are vertically distributed. Characters to which codes are to be set up are collected in a character group in each similar or coincident pronunciation. A common code is partially applied to characters in the same group, the upper six bits out of the code express a character group and the lower two bits express each character in the same character group.
