PURPOSE: To take up a thin metallic sheet which is manufactured by a fast rotating drum directly without any damage by setting the thin metallic strip near a drum and winding it around a take-up drum whose rotating speed is adjustable.

CONSTITUTION: Molten metal 18 in a furnace 16 is spouted from a nozzle 20 onto the drum 10 which rotates at a high speed and cooled rapidly to form the thin metallic strip 26, which is separated from the drum 10 with an air knife 28 and wound around the take-up drum 30. In this case, the sagging extent of a sag part 29 of the thin metallic strip 26 between both drums 10 and 30 is detected by a sag detector 62, whose signal is sent to a controller 66. The controller 66 controls the rotating speed of the driving motor 36 for the take-up drum 30 on the basis of the interval between both drums 10 and 30 and the sagging extent of the thin metallic strip 26 so that the sag part 29 is not tensed and also operates a cylinder 44 to rotate an arm 32 which supports the shaft 34 of the take-up drum 30 around a pin 42, winding the thin metallic strip 26 directly while preventing the take-up drum 30 from contacting the drum 10.
