PURPOSE: To produce coils with less generation of marks at the shoulder and less irregular winding and misalignment at a high yield by covering a sleeve which is narrower than the width of a metal strip to be wound as initiation, forming a notch which is wider than the sleeve width at the tip of the metal strip or cut away, inserting the tip to both sides of the sleeve or a grip on its one side, and thereby winding fast on the sleeve.
CONSTITUTION: A sleeve 6 is covered on a takeup reel 3 having a grip 4 to make initial winding of a metal strip 5. At this time, the reel 3 is covered with the sleeve 6 which is narrower than the width of the metal strip 5 to be wound, and a notch 7 wider than the width of the sleeve 6 is provided at the tip of the metal strip 5, and the two edges of the metal strip 5 are inserted to the grip 4 on both sides of the sleeve 6, and thus initial winding of the metal strip 5 is performed. This allows production of coils with less generation of marks at the shoulder part and less irregular winding and misalignment at a high yield.
