This device is provided with a first and a second module for detecting contamination and unifying as constitutional elements at least an irradiation means which irradiates the coin surfaces with light, a first light receiving means which receives positive reflection light of the light from the coin surfaces, and a second light receiving means which receives scattered reflection light of the light from the coin surfaces. Each of the means of the first module for detecting contamination and each of the means of the second module for detecting contamination are arranged so that mutual optical axes are orthogonal to coin passage surface.
