Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a coin discriminating device which can securely decide whether or not a coin having a common pattern on one surface and a different pattern on the other surface like Euro-coins can be received and its denomination.
SOLUTION: The coin discriminating device is equipped with a discrimination means which has two color sensors 24 and 34 detecting image data on the top surface of a coin on the upstream and downstream sides of a coin passage part 2, reads pattern data on both the top and reverse surfaces of the coin, and compares the image pattern data with reference pattern data stored in a reference data memory by the denominations to decide whether or not the coin can be accepted and its kind.
