To provide a cold cathode discharge tube and a lighting system, using the cold cathode discharge tube which prevents electrodes fitted to sealing metal bodies sealed to a glass bulb from falling off the sealing metal bodies during the long-term use of lighting.
Electrodes 5, 6, fixed to sealing metal bodies 3, 4 sealed to the end parts of a glass bulb in which rare gas of prescribed pressure is sealed and mercury is diffused, are constituted to provide a first space part and a second space part, with a separation wall placed in between; the sealing metal bodies 3, 4 are fitted into the second space parts, and the separation wall surface and the tip part of each sealing metal body are fixed by welding; and lighting is thereby made stable, without the electrodes 5, 6 falling off the sealing metal bodies 3, 4, even in long-term use of lighting.
