PURPOSE: To enable high-speed rolling of a stainless steel sheet having excellent gloss by generating a coating film on a work roll at an early stage and eliminating its irregurality.

CONSTITUTION: Using a water-soluble rolling oil whose viscosity at 40°C is 5-50cSt, the potential (E:V) of the rolling roll is controlled within the range shown by the equation I and equation II corresponding to the pH of the rolling oil. The max. value: Emax (V)=1-(pH×0.1)... Equation I. The min. value: Emin (V)=-(pH×0.1)... Equation II. The control of pH may be executed by adding ≥1 kinds of alkyl amine and alkanol amine. At the time of actual rolling, the above-mentioned control is applied to only the initial pass after roll change and only the control of pH may be executed on and after the 2nd pass.
