To improve a collation processing performance in a fingerprint/palmprint collation processing apparatus.
The fingerprint/palmprint collation processing apparatus includes a shared memory buffer area SD1 for storing a collation instruction, a search binary data and file binary data, and a cache area management module CM1 for managing it. The shared memory buffer area SD1 includes a binary data storage area for storing the collation instruction and the search binary data, and a cache data storage area for registering decoded data so that a plurality of collation programs can collate the search binary data and the file binary data. When the decoded data inquired from the collation program are present in the cache data storage area, the cache area management module CM1 updates access count information provided in itself, and rearranges the data inside the cache data storage area in the descending order of an access frequency within the fixed time.
