PURPOSE: To considerably enhance the U collecting efficiency by dividing the matrix portion of a magnetic separator into three chambers and moving the chambers to successively carry out U capturing, desorbing and washing operations when U in sea water is collected by a magnetic separation system slurry method.
CONSTITUTION: Matrix portions 3, 4, 5 housed in container 2 of a magnetic separator are magnetized with iron core 1. A mixt. of U adsorbent powder such as ferrite or magnetite powder and sea water is passed through matrix 3 from inlet 7 to capture the adsorbent with adsorbed U by magnetic force. In matrix 4 the U is desorbed from the captured adsorbent, and in matrix 5 the U-free adsorbent is washed. The U-free washed adsorbent is released in sea water again to adsorb U freshly, and the above-mentioned processes are repeated. At this time, matrix portions 3, 4, 5 are successively moved and circulated in the chamber to collect U efficiently.
