Abstract:

To provide an ionization method for ionizing physiological molecules, such as protein molecules, without damaging the same, and to provide an ionization device.

In a charged liquid droplet forming chamber 31, water/methanol mixed giant cluster (acetic acid or ammonia is added) ions or the like of micron or sub-micron order (immediately before boiling point on or in the vicinity of the dry ice/acetone temperature) of a micron or submicron order mixed with a sample are formed through electrospray 32 (includes nanoelectrospray) and are accelerated in a vacuum acceleration chamber 41 by a high-voltage electric field of about 10 kV, to be made to collide with a target (substrate) 43 and a biopolymer is ionized.
