Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide novel delayed release drug formulations which are resistant to digestion by the enzyme of upstream digestive tract and which are digested within a colon by colonic bacterial enzymes, such as α-amylase enzyme, produced by a colonic resident bacterial species group within colon to release a drug having in a core.SOLUTION: There is provided a delayed release drug formulation which targets the release of a drug from a core to bowel, particularly to colon, using a delayed release coating comprises a mixture of a first material selected from starch, amylose, amylopectin, chitosan, chondroitin sulfate, cyclodextrin, dextran, pullulan, carrageenan, scleroglucan, chitin, curdlan and levan with a second material whose pH threshold value is about 5 or more. Preferably, the delayed release drug formulation is particularly a starch having at least 50 wt.% of amylose, and preferably it is coated with a coating material.SELECTED DRAWING: None
