Abstract:
PURPOSE:To detect necessary minimum color block size in image information at high speed by simple constitution by providing a horizontal block width deciding means and a vertical block width deciding means. CONSTITUTION:In reading operation of a display memory of the first time, color information of read picture signals is compared with color of one before separately in horizontals and vertical directions by horizontal color width deciding means 104-107 and vertical color width deciding means 112-115, and the shortest color width horizontal M, vertical N is detected. MXN is the minimum color size at any position in image information. In display memory reading operation of the second time, color information of picture signals in MXN when the image information is divided in unit of MXN is compared separately in horizontal and vertical directions by horizontal block width deciding means 108-111 and vertical block deciding means 116-119, and the shortest color width horizontal X vertical Y are outputted. X, Y indicate resolution of color information of picture signals, and conversion size of color most efficient in encoding of image information in fixed size and the largest color block size are detected by two times of reading of the display memory.
