To provide a color cathode-ray tube that can achieve the uniformity of brightness and to improve the effect of a shade generated by a screen without causing the deterioration of a brightness characteristic.
The aperture width W1 of an aperture 45 for luminescence provided in a striped shape on a fluorescent screen is partially enlarged at a section located in the upper proximity and the lower proximity of the shade 42 of the damper line of an aperture grille. Consequently, four enlarged sections 45a are formed so that the shade 42 is adjacent to an overlapped section 42a overlapped with the aperture 45 for luminescence. The sum of areas of four enlarged sections 45 is set at a value nearly equivalent to or larger than the area of the overlapped section 42a of the corresponding shade 42 and not larger than two times. In addition, a vertical width 4 along approximately the Y direction of each enlarged section 45a is set at a value 1.5 times or more the vertical width along approximately the Y direction of a vibration suppressing member or the like that generates the shade 42.
