PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide natural looks of colors of an image when the colors of the image to be displayed on a CRT are changed. SOLUTION: Chromaticity points R0, G0, B0 of three primary colors and a chromaticity point W0 of white of an actual CRT are set on an xy chromaticity chart of a CIE and the respective chromaticity points R0, G0, B0 of the three primary colors and the chromaticity point W0 of the white are connected by respective straight lines r, g, b. New primary colors R1, G1, B1 are set at proper positions between the respective chromaticity points R0, G0, B0 and W0 on these straight lines, the chromaticity points of these newly set primary colors R1, G1, B1 are calculated and the calculated chromaticity points are defined as R1(xR1 , yR1 ), G1(xG1 , yG1 ), B1(xB1 , yB1 ). Image data of an XYZ color system is converted into the image data of a chromaticity space S1 of an RGB color system consisting of R1, G1, B1 by using a matrix parameter to be determined from these pieces of coordinate data (xR1 , yR1 ), (xG1 , yG1 ), (xB1 , yB1 ) and the converted image data is inputted in the CRT.
