PURPOSE: To obtain a desired color image and to reduce the size and cost of the device by providing a selecting means and selecting a developing device corresponding to the same electrostatic latent image, and applying different toner on the electrostatic latent image on a photosensitive body for development.
CONSTITUTION: Second and succeeding developing devices are arranged in the rotating direction of the photosensitive body 1 at positions where toner do not contact the photosensitive body 1 and the selecting means 12 selects developing devices to be driven for the same electrostatic latent image. In this constitution, the photosensitive body 1 is charged electrostatically by an electrostatic charger 8 while rotated and the charged part is irradiated with laser light from an exposure part 9 to form the electrostatic latent image. This electrostatic latent image is developed by some of the developing devices 3 - 5 and the obtained toner image is transferred by a transfer means 6 to a conveyed transfer form and fixed by a fixing means 10. Here, toner particles of different colors are mixed selectively to obtain colors more than the developing devices 3 - 5. Consequently, the device is reduced in size and cost.
