Title:
COLOR DISPLAY DEVICE
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH03211525
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To produce a brighter display device by operating plural birefringence cells in combination with color polarizers to realize one color display system and compensating and correcting the birefringence color in this case.

CONSTITUTION: Light made incident on a first panel 12 is polarized by a first polarizer 20. The magenta polarizer 20 allows white light parallel with its axis to pass through and allows blue and red light orthogonal to the axis to pass through. Since light passes a display partial assembly 10 with these blue and red light added, it contributes to brightness of the whole of display. When a polarizer 28 adjacent to a panel 18 is colored in cyan, blue and green light which are normally absorbed there are leaked and emitted from the display partial assembly 10, and therefore, brightness is improved. Thus, two color polarizers are used to considerably improve the brightness of display though normal achromatic polarizers are used as polarizers 22, 24, and 26 placed in the middle of a liquid crystal panel.
