PURPOSE: To obtain a color filter having improved light resistance so that the light resistance in a liquid crystal display element using this color filter is improved by forming a resin layer containing UV absorbent between a transparent substrate and a coloring layer or on the opposite side of the transparent substrate opposite to the coloring layer.

CONSTITUTION: A resin soln. containing a UV absorbent is applied by a spinner method or spray method to form a resin layer 3 containing the UV absorbent on a transparent substrate where a black matrix 2 is formed. Then, a photosensitive color resist is applied by a spinner method or spray method to form a photosensitive color resist coating film 4. Then, a negative mask 5 having a specified pattern is mounted on the photosensitive color resist coating film 4 to expose 6 and develop the film to form a color resist pattern 7. Then, color resists 8, 10 of different colors from the color resist pattern 7 are used and applied, exposed and developed in the same procedure to form color resist patterns 9, 11. Thus, the coloring layer 12 is formed to obtain the color filter.
