To prevent faulty display such as an afterimage, etc., from occurring by setting the tilt angle of the surface of a color filter on the pattern edge part of a black matrix to be smaller than a specified value.
This color filter 24 is provided with the black matrix 20 and a coloring layer 25 formed on the aperture part of the black matrix 20 and a part of the black matrix 20 on a transparent base plate 19. Laminated matters 21 to 23 are dotted spacers formed on the black matrix by laminating the layers 25. The layer 25 is flat in the vicinity of the center of the aperture part of the black matrix 20 but swells on the pattern edge part of the black matrix because of the black matrix 20. By making the layer 25 thicker in thickness or grinding the layer 25 when a sufficient result is not obtained even by such processing, the tilt angle s of the surface of the filter 24 on the pattern edge part of the black matrix 20 is adjusted to ≤25°, desirably, ≤20°.
